I myself come from a family with three young beautiful sisters and a loving beautiful mother. While watching my three younger sisters grow up I have been able to see how they have begun to worry about their self image. This negative self doubt and judgement has come with heavy influence from the ever raising standards of women beauty and perfection within our society.

 

Knowing this I wanted to create a project that helps express what women feel as a result of society's standards. This concept is reflected in my recent photo series Self Imagery, where I attempt to share with my audience the negative self thoughts women have with their bodies by capturing their flaws. Each photo in the series expresses a specific flaw, imperfection, or general discomfort my sisters and mother each have with their bodies. These images are meant to share with my audience the ever increasing problem of self imagery that women put themselves through everyday.
